Valiant Tiberias is the fastest qualifier to the June 29, $53,108 Adequan Ruidoso Derby Challenge final at Ruidoso Downs.

Racing in the first of three trials on Friday, Valiant Tiberas defeated third-fastest qualifier Jakes Baby Wagon by two lengths while covering 400 yards in :19.920. James Flores rode the Valiant Hero gelding for owners Sergio Holguin, Cliften Nielsen, and Felix Rodriguez, and trainer Ricardo Armendariz.

"He had a good start and a clean trip," said Flores. "I didn't do anything special. He took off."

Valiant Tiberas was bred in Oklahoma by Reliance Ranches LLC. The gelding was stretching out in distance off of his wire-to-wire, three-quarter length victory in the 350-yard, $116,840 Ruidoso Maiden Stakes on May 27.

Valiant Tiberias has won three of six races and has earned $56,503.
