Colorado realist Sarah Phippen portrays the West with an understanding that comes from a deep love of the land, people and animals of the region in which she was born and raised. She grew up surrounded by livestock and wildlife at the base of the Rocky Mountains.
“I am often delighted by moments that reveal a relationship of harmony between people and animals in their surroundings - the feeling that it is good to be alive in the world,” says Sarah.
Sarah studied with prominent artists John Coleman for sculpting, and painters Jay Moore, Jim Norton, Daniel Sprick, Sandra Kaplan and Anthony J. Ryder, each of whom deepened her understanding of oil painting, color and composition. She received the Joe Beeler Cowboy Artist Foundation Award in 2013, an Award of Excellence from the American Academy of Equine Art in 2017, and was a National Western Club Artist in 2017 and 2018.
